Feed the koi from the same place each time and wait by the pond until they have finished feeding. Gradually approach them more closely until they associate you with feeding.

Include a few treat foods, such as prawns or brown bread, and hold the very still in the water until the koi approach. on the first few occasions when they attempt to take the food from your hand, it is very likely that they will splash you in their eagerness to grab the treat.

few tips and tricks to help tame your koi and make them a nice family pet that you can really enjoy so it does take um
quite a few years to get a koi calm enough that they’re not scared of you these guys definitely were scared

when we first got them as they get bigger and more relaxed they just kind of chill out and as long as you spend enough time near the pond they do get used to you koi will recognize your voice they’ll recognize your footsteps and they’ll
actually will tell if you have friends or family over that they don’t recognize just by the sound of their feet

so it’s best to start trying to tame your koi by just enticing them with a little bit of food and it’s usually best to do this when there are not too many other people looking around if you have your friends and family over while you’re trying to do this

it definitely it makes them a little

skittish because as I say they can they

can hear the footsteps and they know

when it’s not just you when there’s

somebody around that they don’t

recognize so after they get used to you

then what I use or what I usually do is

take a bigger piece of food like this

and then if you are lucky they’ll

actually take it right out of your hand

here so you just start with this and

let’s see if one will come and take it

and there we go and one came and took it

right out of my hand after um they get

used to doing that a little bit you can

start to them actually just put the food

in your hands like this and sometimes

they’ll come and just take it right out

of your fingertips sometimes they’ll

take your fingertip

but they do start to get to know you and

trust you and realize that you and your

hands aren’t anything to worry about

it is just food oh I definitely have

different personalities you’ll find some

of them are more outgoing than others

and some are curious some are more

skittish to start with so if you can get

one or two that are more curious to

start with and they will actually coax

the other ones in as they’re not scared

so the other ones tend not to be scared

either

so these guys they’re about four to five

years old now the first year they really

would bail even eat in front of us and

the second year they did quite good at

eating in front of us by the third year

they would eat close to us by the fourth

year they would eat out of our fingers

and by your five like this they will not

only eat other your fingers but if

you’re not careful they will actually

eat your fingers so anyways that’s a few

tips and pointers to help train your koi

Gently lower your hand into the water holding the food in your fist. Move your hand very slowly while allowing a few pieces to escape.

Time your training so that the fish are hungry and ready to be fed. Then place a few koi pellets or “snacks” like Dried Krill or Silkworm

feed your koi make them less scared of you in general everyone has had fish that dart around the tank or pond as soon as they see you it’s extremely frustrating when you just want to watch your fish but all they do is hide my fish was like that once but with time they got more and more used to me

the best way to get fish to come toward you are to motivate them with food if the fish notice that you always bring
their food they will associate you with feeding time it might take some time at first for them to eat in front of you

but be patient slowly come up to the tank or pond and throw in some food without making any sudden movements make sure you stay long enough for them to get used to you over time the fish will swim towards you

when they see you next you can try putting your hand in the water as you feed them this will make them think that your hand in the water means it’s feeding time at first, you don’t need to put the food near your hand you can work towards getting the food closer and closer to your hand until they come within inches of your hand at this point you can try hand-feeding eventually you’ll get to the point where the fish come to your hand even when you don’t have food

There are some koi who are extremely friendly than others it is always the first to come to eat and sort of leads the group and shows them that everything is okay without these koi all the others won’t be nearly as confident

you will also notice this with your fish some fish are really brave but some will not dare come near until other fish show
them that everything is okay if this method does not work you can try to starve your fish for a day or two to motivate them to eat in front of you do not starve them for too long though if your fish are already well-fed they won’t feel as motivated to eat so starving them might do the trick
